IDI Toronto Public Heroes Award Ceremony

Public Heroes Awards Ceremony 2013 took take place on May 1st, 2013, 7pm at Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Around 200 guests enjoyed a marvelous night, where they recognized the important work done by the Police, Fire and EMS. The night started with a warm reception followed by the entry of head table guests to the hall accompanied by ceremonial units, colour guards and pipers from Toronto Police, Fire and EMS.

AHF condemns the bombing at Boston Marathon

Anatolian Heritage Federation condemns the bombing at Boston Marathon. We are deeply saddened by this disheartening news and we are repulsed by this senseless act of terrorism and loss of innocent life. AHF, on behalf of the Turkic community in Canada, condemns such acts of violence and strongly believes that all those who are responsible for this outrageous act will be brought to justice and will receive the necessary punishment. We offer healing prayers to the victims, and we share the grief with families of victims. This evil act reinforces the urgent need for international solidarity. With that objective in mind, nations will gain more security in their pursuit of international collaboration, reinforced by an atmosphere of trust and interdependence. We hope that the perpetrators will be brought to justice as soon as possible so we may progress in our mission toward a peaceful global community and once again we offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those injured.

The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario His Honourable was kind in giving us the time to interview him regarding the ethnic community media awards. AHF President Mr. Sukan Alkin & IDI Toronto Executive director Mr. Fatih Yegul Presented his Honours with Turkish coffee set for his and her honours to enjoy a wonderful Turkish Coffee. 3rd World Canada Tour Royal Ontario Museum

First leg of the 3rd World Canada Tour was held at Royal Ontario Museum. IDI Toronto being one of the sponsors of the event. The event attracted audience from every walks of life. Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Grand Chief Stan Beardy were among those who honoured the evening with their speeches. But the documentary and the panel discussion moderated by the producer Andree Cazabon were eye-openers for Torontonians. It became obvious we need to keep this dialogue going and continue to work on creating awareness about the difficult conditions in which first nations people in Ontario and other parts of Canada are living. Noah’s Pudding offered by IDI Toronto was a good gesture for the guests who came to see the documentary.

AHF Annual Reception at Ottawa City Hall October 4, 2012

Anatolian Heritage Federation held reception at Ottawa City Hall on October 4, 2012. Main guests of the Reception were the Mayor of City Hall, Jim Watson and his councillors. The program began with the introduction video for the Anatolian Heritage Federation. AHF President Mr. Sukan Alkin briefed the guests on AHF’s aims and its member organizations through out Canada and also the ones which are located in the City of Ottawa. Each council members gave remarks for the Turkish communities activities. The Mayor gave his remarks about the Federations members in Ottawa and stated that ‘Community efforts are always great to have in this City, we thank the Turkish community for their efforts in Ottawa”.

Former Speaker of the House of Commons Mr. Peter Milliken gave his remarks and wished the AHF and its member organizations all the best for their efforts. Each speaker was given a plaque after their speech. Then everyone was invited for a delicious Turkish Culinary. The reception closed of with a live performance by Anastasia Filipova.

Anatolian Heritage Federation Annual Reception, 22 October 2012

Anatolian Heritage Federation held “Annual Reception” on October 22, 2012 at Ottawa Sheraton Hotel. Federal Member of Parliament Canada, Federal Member of Senators Canada, High commissioners and Community leaders were invited. Members of Anatolian Heritage Federation were present at the reception to see their local MP. The following countries were also present with their cultural display: Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgiz, Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia, Tatar and Turkiye. Party member representatives gave speech at the reception; MP Bob Dechert representing the Conservative party, MP Irene Mathyssen representing the NDP and MP Hon. Judy Sgro representing the Liberal Party. Federal Member of Parliaments and guests gave remarks. For the guests there was also display of Art work Ebru (Water Marbling), Turkish Calligraphy, Cultural clothing, and Turkish Culinary. The Federal Member of Parliaments, Senators of Canada and High commissioners were briefed on Anatolian Heritage Federations aims and objectives. It was also an opportunity for the Turkic community and the Balkan community to be able to showcase their culture to the Federal Member of Parliament, Canada. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful Turkish culinary and also were able have their names written by the Turkish Calligraphy artist.
