Message of Condolence to Oklahoma

The massive tornado that tore through the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore on Monday wiped out blocks of houses, killed at least 24 people and injured about 240.

The death toll of 24 was lower than initially feared, but nine children were among the dead, including seven who died at Plaza Towers Elementary School, which took a direct hit by the deadliest tornado to strike the United States in two years. We hope that leaders and citizens make a commitment to those affected by offering sustained resources, assistance and prayers.

In this regard, to relieve the grief and losses of those affected by Tornado and to help the people suffering in the aftermath of a powerful tornado that hit Oklahoma on Monday, leaving 24 dead, Northern Lights Relief Foundation in cooperation with several not-for-profit organizations is initiating a Relief Campaign. Several fundraising events, bake sales and online donation campaigns are planned as part of the Relief Campaign. The funds collected through the Campaign will be delivered to the victims either through the American Missions in Canada or through authorized International Agencies.

Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to the victims of the tornado who lost their relatives, homes and their livelihoods. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tornado. We ask God Almighty to give them solace and hope in the difficult days ahead. We wish an earliest recovery, materially and spiritually.

3rd Annual Friendship Reception at Queens Park

The Anatolian Heritage Federation (AHF) will be hosting its annual reception for the Members of Provincial Parliament, their staff and for Turkic communities at Queen’s Park on June 3, 2013 (12-1pm). AHF aims to establish a landmark event for Turkic Canadians resembling the Turkic Canadian solidarity; and the reception will be a venue to share the Turkic Heritage in Canada and will also be a venue to celebrate Turkic societies’ contributions to the Canadian society. The last year’s reception was quite a success bringing together over 40 MPPs and members of various communities.

AHF condemns the car bombing in Reyhanli-Hatay/Turkey

Anatolian Heritage Federation (AHF) strongly condemns the car bombing in Reyhanli-Hatay/Turkey which killed more than 50 innocent people and injured several others. AHF mourns the loss of civilians and offers its condolences to the families of all who have perished at the hands of the terrorism while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured as a result of this atrocious act. We urge everyone of all faiths to join us in praying for the victims and their families. We are repulsed by this heinous act of terrorism and lament the loss of innocent life. Turkey is a key NATO ally to Canada in the Middle East, and the Anatolian Heritage Federation regularly sends members of our community to Turkey to witness the country’s diverse culture and to foster mutual respect abroad. We are deeply saddened by this atrocity, particularly in a country where we have many close ties. As prominent Turkish scholar Fethullah Gulen said the attack, which targeted Hatay, a symbol of a culture of peaceful coexistence, had unleashed a great sorrow. He said people will respond, while preserving common sense, to those who have targeted the moves that aim to restore social peace and brotherhood in Turkey. As an organization whose mission is to promote peace, respect, and dialogue in the world, we feel it is our duty to publicly condemn hateful catastrophes like these, so we may continue persevering toward our ultimate goal: a peaceful international community. We hope that continued dialogue between countries and cultures will ignite an international conversation toward peace and mutual understanding.

IDI Toronto Public Heroes Award Ceremony

Public Heroes Awards Ceremony 2013 took take place on May 1st, 2013, 7pm at Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Around 200 guests enjoyed a marvelous night, where they recognized the important work done by the Police, Fire and EMS. The night started with a warm reception followed by the entry of head table guests to the hall accompanied by ceremonial units, colour guards and pipers from Toronto Police, Fire and EMS.

AHF condemns the bombing at Boston Marathon

Anatolian Heritage Federation condemns the bombing at Boston Marathon. We are deeply saddened by this disheartening news and we are repulsed by this senseless act of terrorism and loss of innocent life. AHF, on behalf of the Turkic community in Canada, condemns such acts of violence and strongly believes that all those who are responsible for this outrageous act will be brought to justice and will receive the necessary punishment. We offer healing prayers to the victims, and we share the grief with families of victims. This evil act reinforces the urgent need for international solidarity. With that objective in mind, nations will gain more security in their pursuit of international collaboration, reinforced by an atmosphere of trust and interdependence. We hope that the perpetrators will be brought to justice as soon as possible so we may progress in our mission toward a peaceful global community and once again we offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those injured.
